Kharkhorin - Ancient Capital City of Mongolia

Kharkhorin was established in 1220. It was the capital of Mongolia for 140 years and the capital of Mongol Empire for 32 years. Erdene zuu monastery was erected on the initiative of Aptai Sain Khaan in 1586 at Kharakhorum. The Monastery surrounded by a massive wall which is 402 x 402 meter. There are 4 gates at the each side walls consist of 108 stupas, 25 on each and 2 at every corner. In the former times, the Monastery included of 100 temples with 1000 monks.

  • Day 1.
    Drive to Kharkhorin, the ancient capital of the Mongolian Empire in the 13th century. Visit magnificent Erdene Zuu Monastery built on the ruins of the Kharkhorum in 1586, was the first Buddhist sculptures, artwork, and books. Overnight at Ger guesthouse or tents.
  • Day 2.
    After breakfast drive back to the Semi-desert and sand dune lays about 90 km long. Perfect place for linking and camel riding. Overnight at Ger guesthouse or tents.
  • Day 3
    Drive to UB. On the way stopover Khustai National Park. Take some photos and hiking in beautiful nature. Overnight at LG Hostel.
